Grace was itty bitty- but still a moose compared to her brother. Just a touch less of a pistol too ;)

I think Sarah and Jim are really good at choosing baby names. Sam is such a fabulous name (I have a Sam too). I think little boys named Sam are some of the cutest babies in the world. Not that I'm partial or anything ;) These are from when Sam was 2 months old. Below are some from his 8 month photos too!
The cradle was hand made for Sarah when she was a baby. Isn't that an incredible heirloom? I really love things like that. They have their own story that is wrapped into what we are capturing. I can't get enough of the suit either. He looks like a little baby boss. It's awesome.
I think it is so neat when babies are given special handmade gifts. This little man had an entire hockey outfit crocheted for him! It was so fun to dress him up- I am certain that he is well grown out of it by now, but what a special keepsake- something that you can give to them when they have their own baby and say "I remember when"....
I've grown to appreciate when newborns are alert. They are studying their world for the very first time, and the depth of their wonder is unfathomable. They way they look into the faces of their parents, discovering the bodies that come with the comforting voices they have known as long as they could hear. Sleeping is gorgeous and special, yes, but the awakenings are gorgeous too. They aren't always awkward and crosseyed. If you wait, hold your breath for a moment, and watch, they will give you a glimpse of heaven.
I'm spoiled to have such stunning newborns that I am blessed to photograph.
It is so fun to watch an older sibling who is still little themselves discover their new baby. My kids are all two years apart, and one of my favorite things is capturing the wonder of someone smaller than themselves. It makes for it's own special challenges when it comes to pictures, but that is what makes it all the more fun and special. It was such a joy to capture this family!
Do you remember Christopher's birth from last year? Again, can't believe he just turned one. It makes me excited and sad at the same time.
Christopher had a sock monkey birthday party- so of course we had to take sock monkey pictures! Is he not one of the cutest little guys ever???
Again... This year has gone too fast! Do you remember this little sweet pea's newborn photos?? That was over a year ago! WOW! She is the cutest little princess- and we had so much fun doing her cake smash.
Watching families fall in love is the best part about my job. If you have had kids, you know the feeling of having your first baby come home with you. Your family is redefined. You know real, true, intensely protective love for the first time. It's beautiful to witness.

Her mommy owns and teaches at Pure Barre Greenwood Village. If you haven't heard of Pure Barre or even if you have- check it out! I am so excited for taking classes there to get back into shape once our little one arrives.
You know how people say that babies don't smile when they are brand new? I think they are crazy. While they may not look at their mommy and daddy and smile with intention, I think they certainly smile when they feel safe, comforted, and have dreams of those things. I mean- does that look like GAS to you? I think he's thinking about his amazing mommy who loves him to bits and pieces. And that daddy who adores him and would do anything for him.
Congratulations Chloe and Ryan. He is a beautiful, wonderful blessing!
Man oh man have I neglected my poor blog. I have scads of sessions to share with you though- so we may as well get started! We have had a busy, wild, fun, and HOT summer. I've spent a lot more time outside with the kids lately than I have at the computer, so blog posts were neglected. Fall is on it's way though- and I couldn't be more excited. If I could eliminate allergies and just live in the Spring and Fall all the time I would be one happy Kimmie. Great colors, even better temperatures... ah, it sounds so nice! I am so excited for all the Fall sessions coming up. Be on the lookout for mini sessions being posted soon. We are just waiting on our newest goodies to arrive and then we will be announcing them!
Sometimes, babies are just little angels. I typically plan to have a session last 3+ hours, because we work on baby time- not grown up time. With space for breaks and nursing, it usually takes a while. I love every minute of it though. This little man? Less than an hour. He just slept so hard- even when we ventured outside.
I can't wait to get to know him as he grows. He's beautiful, precious, and happy.

I LOVE my little baby planners! It's so amazing to see these little guys their first year, when they are first born, when they are holding their head up and smiling lots, sitting up, and then standing. Do you remember this stunning little guy? He's so much fun- and he has grown like crazy! I absolutely love spending time with his family. I love the way he made so many fun faces. So much personality. I adore him.
I just want to squeeze him. I squealed when I saw him- can you blame me?
We had a beautiful Mother's day yesterday. The kids were so excited it was mothers day that they were up by 6:30. Then they (Daddy) made me breakfast in bed! The eggs even were in a smiley face. They each gave me a card. What I love about the cards is that my husband, Chris, lets them choose WHATEVER card they want. From any section at all. It makes it that much more special- and we laugh the whole time we open them because they are never from the section they "should" be from. Hailey got a card that was a happy birthday to a sister (It had two lovely teddy bears hugging on the front), Noah picked an anniversary card with two monkeys that were hugging, and Teagan picked a card that was from a mother to her son. I just laugh- we always date the back and put the occasion they picked. It's unique and I love the way my husband thinks. He gives them the freedom to choose, and they come back with things that fit for them. Then we got to spend the day enjoying the amazing weather. I don't know that we spent more than 10 minutes inside before it was dark.
I have so enjoyed my time with this wonderful family. Their new little man is so sweet, and so alert! He made me work, but I loved every minute of it. We got to try some new things too- I'm so excited. Doing this session helped me to officially decide to expand my education. This fall I am going to spend a weekend learning how to do newborns even better. It's going to be fantastic!
I just love them
I know I say it a lot, but I love my job. I love that I am chosen, from so many talented photographers, to share people's lives. There is no higher honor than that. I love that the people I shoot let me be a part of their family for a few hours of their life.
Remember the gorgeous maternity's from March? Well the little guy decided he didn't want to turn over! That's right- he decided to be breech. The difficult decision was made to schedule a c-section for his arrival, since he had zero intention of flipping over. The hospital has a strict 1-person-only policy for c-sections, so both of us were worried that the birth wouldn't be captured the way we had hoped. So Nicole asked her doctor and the hospital if I could be in the room. What's the worst they could say? We didn't even know for certain what the answer was until just minutes before the surgery- I think that the anesthesiologist was worried that I wouldn't be considerate of a medical procedure. (Note to photographers- make sure you let medical staff know that you will stay out of the way and only in the spaces they designate as appropriate. It goes a REALLY long way to be respectful)
With C-Sections, everything moves pretty quickly. It's really amazing to watch. And then.... They arrive. I have a mask on to hide my tears. Babies coming in to the world... I can't help but be overjoyed. Especially for families whom I have grown to know and love. Daddy's first glimpse, Mommy's. Together those first moments- I wish I had adequate words.
When everything settled down, big brother got to meet baby brother. When they are so little- like mine, these two kiddos are a little less than 2 years apart- the older kids don't know what to think of Mommy being strapped in to a bed. I'm sure all of those cords are scary.
Oh- and you were SERIOUS about a baby in your tummy? WHAAAAT do you mean we get to keep him?

I'm so guilty of not having enough photos with me and my kids. I am always behind the camera, and I know a lot of parents who feel the same way. I also know how deeply I cherish pictures of my with my mom and my daddy, and I need to be better about getting pictures with my babies so they have special pictures when they become adults.
Mini sessions are a fantastic way to try out custom photography for the first time, and the session makes a great Mother's Day gift (hint, hint, hint, Daddies!) Meet little Mr. X. I have been so blessed to meet so many new babies lately! Xander was so sweet and awake during our session. I don't think I have ever gotten so much eye contact from a newborn before- it was neat to watch him just take in everything going on! He slept for about 20 minutes, then when I switched backgrounds he gave us a cute little yawn and was awake again. Such a sweetheart.
Another amazing year has FLOWN by for us (I just realized last week that it was our second birthday- holy smokes that went fast!) and we are celebrating by giving away some fun goodies for my fellow photographers and my amazing clients!

Do you ever have the moment when you see something and know that it is just going to be perfect? Even at her mommy's maternity sessions I just knew she would be beautiful, but how beautiful I couldn't have guessed. Petite and precious- I don't think I have EVER seen a baby have such beautiful skin so new. Little miss Sarene was an absolute joy, enough so that we just kept playing!
She smiled every single time I changed her pose. I think she is a born performer, right down to her beautiful little feet.

This little man knows how to make an entrance. But is he oh-so-worth all the worry he caused? COMPLETELY.
Most newborns I capture do better without mommy nearby. That mommy smell makes them hungry and squirmy... But every so often, despite the baby whispering, they would rather have mommy near them than me. Carter was one of those babies- but who could blame him? His mommy is rather wonderful.
Once he was snuggled and warm, he was ready to go. We even got his big doggy brother in on the action. I love the curiosity from Tippit about who that little baby is.
I can't wait for the trees to blossom and the snow to melt- watch for family portraits in the next couple of months!
